Coil Springs, Leaf Springs, U-Bolts….All Important!!

Filed under: Tech — BillD @ 5:02 pm

Chamberlain Spring makes coils for our sister company Otto-Max. They sell them along with leaf springs and other parts required for installation. Although they are a volume wholesale distributor, they also help out smaller customers when they need it. For example, when you want to replace a couple of rear leaf springs on the back of your Pick Up, you will need a few more parts besides the springs, to do the job. U-BoltsAt minimum, you will need a set of 4 u-bolts with hardened flat washers and high strength deep nuts. They’ll make them up for you on the spot, in as little as 5 minutes. Why can’t you just use the old bolts again? Well, most likely, they are too rusted to thread properly. Also, u-bolts stretch when properly torqued - Did you know that? That is important to know because……..this means that even if the u-bolts are not too rusted to use again, they CANNOT be properly torqued due to distorted threads. Don’t forget to re-torque the u-bolts after a week or so.  They may loosen a little and you don’t want your suspension moving around on you.

If you’re lucky enough to not need completely new springs, they can help there too. Often, only the bushings need to be replaced. They stock most common rubber, brass, bi-metal and threaded bushings for most cars, Pick Ups and heavy trucks.

Ask them about shackles, spring pins and other suspension parts too. Rubber Bushings

Otto-Max also sells repair plates (stock leaves) for repair shops. These can be cut drilled and formed to bolster or strengthen existing spring assemblies.

What makes Otto-Max unique is that, not only do they ship large volumes of coil and leaf springs all over North America, they also service local repair shops and distributors in the Greater Vancouver area.

I Love My Truck BUT……It Needs SOMETHING!!

Filed under: Promotions — BillD @ 12:40 pm

Chamberlain Spring makes a lot of coil springs for after-market suspension companies as well as for our sister company Otto-Max Industries. Macspring makes lots of leaf springs for after-market suspension companies and Otto-Max, as well. This works out great because many domestic trucks use both coil and leaf springs. Through Otto-Max we are able to service big and small accounts alike for either product.

I don’t know what it is about trucks, but the first thing we want to do when we buy one, is change it! A lot of the time, this change is directed at the suspension. For some reason, the OEM height is the problem! It’s either too high or too low. So, we want need to lower the truck or raise it - One or the other. Can’t leave it where it is……..

Otto-Max, with the help of McAllister Industries (Macspring and Chamberlain Spring) has been helping to solve this dilemna for many years. They have proven designs for popular applications in stock. Even if they don’t have them, they can help design a custom application just for you!

Some of the biggest and best known North American distributors of after-market suspensions are supplied by McAllister Industries and Otto-Max, so we know what we’re doing!

This month through Mar. 31st we are featuring a great special on ‘99 - ‘04  Ford Super Duty front lift springs 4″ & 6″ lift at 15% off your best net price. These are superb quality with the large OEM type rubber bushings already installed. You will need additional hardware commonly available from some of the larger after-market distributors.

So, when you think Heavy Duty, Lift, or Lowering springs - think Otto-Max. They got ‘em. If they don’t, they’ll get ‘em or we’ll make ‘em. If we CAN’T - You don’t need them!

Give Otto-Max a call - They’re happy to help you and your suspension.

You Don’t Have to be Tough to Ride TUFF!!

Filed under: News — BillD @ 4:22 pm

One of our favorite product lines is the TufTruck coils. These are heavy duty work type coils designed for guys who really work their trucks. We make them for our sister company, Otto-Max Industries.

If you regularly load your domestic P/U truck up with big loads, or run a snow plow or big winch and bumper, then these coils will really help you. Otto-Max has actually been selling  different HD coil applications for several decades but only in the last 5 Yrs. or so, have they decided to give them their own exclusive name. If you looked at these coils you would see that the name is really appropriate. These are TUFF coils. They’ve even been sent overseas for Military Applications. We are constantly updating the applications to include new models of domestic trucks where there is a demand for them. Right now we are developing a heavy duty coil replacement for the REAR of a Dodge Ram 1500. This is one of the very few trucks that has coils in the back. Unfortunately, they are a little on the weak side and a number of people have asked if we have an HD version available. We don’t………BUT! We will very shortly.

A lot of our coils end up in the oil fields in Alberta. We have a couple of distributors there who regularly buy pallet loads of them.

It’s important to know that these coils are far from your regular wimpy semi heavy-duty coils that are commonly available. These  are engineered in-house by us and made by us, one of the Premier Hot winders in North America. They are designed to be a no-compromise solution to truckers who need strong coils that WORK!

If you need further information about this great line of springs, give Otto-Max a call at 604-888-1871 or email - contact@otto-max.com

Quality Never Goes Out of Style!

Filed under: Uncategorized — BillD @ 4:52 pm

Some of you may know that Chamberlain Spring is part of a spring group called McAllister Industries. We manufacture both coil and leaf products and distribute much of it through our sister warehouse - Otto-Max Industries. As a matter of fact, our sales office for all three companies is centralized there.

This week we were quite busy preparing for our annual ISO audit. Of course, we passed it with nary a whimper. We have some really skilled and intelligent people working here that make sure that almost everything we do is in line with our ISO commitment to have all parts and processes verified and traceable. It gives you a great feeling to know that everything you sell is good quality and will make the end customer happy. The plant across the street is next, its audit coming up in May. We run a pretty tight ship so I’m sure it will be a breeze as it has been in recent years.

On another note, we are quite thrilled to add a new product to our fine line of parts. It’s called “Extend-A-Truck”. It is low cost, great quality, really useful and super EZ to install. Check out these pictures below. So, next time you head for the lumber yard or want to want to take your canoe down to the river - here is the ideal add-on for you truck or SUV to move this stuff around ridiculously easily. We were playing with it the other day and it was almost laughable how easy it was to install. It might have taken a minute or so.

Everything is Coming Up GREEN!

Agricultural Tine - 3/4" 5160 Material. Fully Heat Treated.

Little did we know, a few years ago, when we first started going down the green path, how swiftly Canada and the world would follow……..

Like most leaf and coil spring manufacturers, we, until recently, heated and processed our products almost exclusively with furnaces running on Natural Gas. It’s always been cheap and, until recently, considered very environmentally friendly. That is, until some brilliant scientists figured out that our Global Warming was partly due to mankind’s use of fossil fuels and the resultant carbon dioxide that was a by-product of the combustion.

So, what did we do? Fortunately, we have an abundance of low cost hydro-electric power available in BC Canada. This is a renewable resource. The energy is generated from large dams located strategically around BC. The electricity now is used to run our four high powered induction furnaces. The process is quick, efficient, consistent, economical and GREEN! So, it is a win for everyone. We produce very high quality parts, very economically and with a much lower carbon footprint. The really cool thing is that the product look amazing. Heating steel by induction gives an almost blemish free finish.

Take a look at one of the samples here. This particular part is a 3 Lb. piece of 5160 alloy steel. It is a tine used in the agricultural industry. Something this size is ideally suited for our induction processing. Also, here is a picture of one of the smaller induction machines used for heating small parts that weigh a few pounds.

As we go forward in 2010 our focus will be to find other innovative ways to produce high quality steel products. We offer coil springs in lots of pretty colours but despite what colour you choose,  it may also be GREEN.Small Induction Machine

Welcome to our new Blog Site!

You may not know this but Chamberlain Spring is a member of the DCD Spring Group comprised of Chamberlain Spring, Macspring, and Otto-Max Industries. We’re also known as McAllister Industries.

After many years of manufacturing at different locations, we have enlarged our manufacturing plant in Port Kells, to house both our coil and leaf spring divisions.

They say every cloud has a silver lining and if this recession is one of those clouds then I would say that the silver lining in this case, is the consolidation of our two plants. We are now leaner and meaner and therefor more competitive - which means that we can provide our products more cost competively than before. Some of our customers must agree, because it feels like spring is in the air. The new year started with a Boom and we were quite busy from the ‘git go’.

We are optimistic that the worst is behind us now and we look forward to a better year in 2010. With a consolidated work force we have also gained added flexibility in responding to our customers’ needs. We’ve always been proud of our service and quality but if anything, it’s even BETTER now!

You want or need our help with Coil or Leaf Springs, just give us a call. Doesn’t matter if it’s automotive, truck, transportation, bus, agricultural, industrial, etc. - we’ll help you.

This blog will be updated about once a week with newsworthy tips, tidbits, and our latest and greatest promotions.

Thanks for looking!!
